King Tut review
Customer Service:
This was the first aspect I came into contact with after the website. I placed an order on Friday after business hours in my time zone. It was not soon after that I received email contact from customer service to clarify two things
-their “free gift” program which I indicated in the notes I didn’t understand
-that my order would not be sent until Tuesday (which I prefer because that’s how we avoid mail theft, people!)
So within the next couple of hours of ordering I had selected a free gift from the list and was confident my order would not be waiting in the post office over the long unwatched weekend! A++++ customer service indeed! This is a level of communication I have never received from a MOM before. Truly someone behind the scenes is gifted in customer service.
I even left some constructive criticism on the website and it was addressed very quickly.
What I bought:
I purchased one ounce of their “$99 special” because this is their selling point, I wanted to go in at a moderate price point to test and see how their main offering (budget marijuana) held up.
What I received: I let them know I was going to be writing a review and they included two extra samples so I could review more of their strains! Yes, this is a new company so I know kind words are important to bringing them new customers. I also received my “free gift” of a pack of hemp rolling papers and a wooden pipe (not the pipe I requested but I don’t mind because 1) it was a free gift 2) I’m a vaper more than a smoker so I didn’t actually own any permanent smoking paraphernalia! Who complains if their free gift is wrong anyway?)
The rolling papers are pure hemp, the good stuff for any joint rollers. I do roll up an occasional joint so I will make use of these in time.
The pipe is this adorable super discrete wooden pipe. It’s smaller than my thumb and sturdy. Exciting, considering I only ordered cannabis! I’m actually kind of thrilled because it’s extremely discrete looking and will be great for future travel. I bring pre-ground marijuana in a medicine bottle if I’m going out, and the pipe will fit right into a bottle along with a lighter. Convenient.
Because of these free gifts, I would definitely consider ordering from King Tut if I were travelling, because now I know I’m going to be set up with everything I need to get high in my package.
Price:
Not only was I given a free pipe, free papers, free sample grams along with my $99 ounce… I was able to apply a 25% off coupon code, which basically eliminated the cost of shipping. The end result is a price of under $4 per gram. YES THAT’S RIGHT, YOU HEARD ME RIGHT. When do you get cheap and good customer service and fast shipping and all that? Truly! (bows) All hail our new King Tut!
The Shipping / the package:
As promised, it went out on Tuesday. It arrived on Thursday. The package could have been any piece of mail. From the exterior it was scent-free, and free of any indication of its contents. It was packaged with enough interior air that if you were to squish it with your hands, again, there is no reveal of its contents nor escaping scent.
Inside, the first layer is sealed, opaque and could be packaging for anything. A step up from other cannabis mail order companies which send the contents in clear food-storage bags. If I didn’t know what to expect, I could assume it was parts for a computer, craft supplies, tea, whatever. Could be anything. Inside the opaque bag, the included ounce was packaged in an additional layer of vaccum sealed packaging, and is still not smelly. The ounce includes a humidity control tab. The two bonus one gram samples do not, however, they are just single grams so I don’t expect them to last very long and will not need their moisture maintained. (wink)
I opened up the two sample grams and they both smell dankity dank and also distinctly different in their aromas.
MKUltra - the smell is gentle, grassy, pervasive without the powerful skunkiness of some strains. I find the aroma very pleasant. The buds are middle of the road in their density, not the super dense nuggets some strains provide but not extremely fluffy. They appear to be nicely cured and have fine orange hairs. I have had this strain before from other providers and this is a nice example. There’s a little vanilla, like a smoothie made of hops. It’s one of the least offensive marijuana scents I can imagine.
Vaped, it’s smooth and sweet. The high was cerebral but unremarkable. A good strain for someone who’s newer to using. It tastes good, smells good, and takes you to a nice happy place.
God’s Green Crack - The pine smell is harsh and acerbic, definitely more in the pine tree skunk and acid side. The nugs are dense, so shiny! There’s some snow going on in this package and it makes my eyes water and my heart leap. I am so excited to try this strain. I haven’t tried it before and this flower is BEAUTIFUL. There’s a few streaks of purple hidden underneath the wave of snowy bliss. I don’t know how it’ll vape or smoke, but when it comes to bag appeal, GGC has that going on. I have never felt such excitement for a single gram before. I pretty much guarantee this will be good for someone accustomed to marijuana.
Using it was not disappointing. A single bowl knocked me out of the park. The flavor is intense, a mix of something limey and something hoppy, piney. The citrus isn’t so much like lemon as it is like a bitter lime, and it does have a bit of a sour. I enjoy it, it’s very bold and complimentary. It fills the mouth and sits at the soft pallet. The buds are very tight, so I used a smaller hole grinder to chop it up and got a nice result. I think that’s important on a bud this dense.
This is definitely an advanced user strain. Going at a bowl of this shoots me somewhere into space, and I can’t even imagine how paranoid it would make a new user feel. You know how some highs make you feel like you’re detaching from your own head and being pulled away? Yeah. I wouldn’t want to be wandering around outside on this one. Heavier loads will start verging into the psychedelic. I love this strain, if you can’t tell. The flavor, the results, the potency, the super tight trim. It’s impeccable.
But let’s not forget the main attraction, the 28 grams of El Fuego Blanco I selected. This strain is an indica dominant hybrid of White Widow, a personal favourite of mine. White Widow is reliably a great relaxing, depression-murdering, writing-happening strain in my experience, powerful, tasty, and most important, creativity stimulating.
The contents of the vacuum sealed package don’t look like “low grade” marijuana. There’s visible THC crystals. The bag appeal is lower, it’s small and fluffy buds. Initially opening the package, the scent isn’t as impacting. It’s a modest smell which I can best describe as a sweet chemical pine. It reminds me most of sniffing a fresh bud from a baby pine tree. I can imagine a new user balking because a good close up sniff will make your eyes water. The trim isn’t as tight as you would expect from an A++++ strain, but let me tell you. I have paid more money for worse marijuana. This is no landrace ditchweed brick of mj. The trim is its only apparent flaw and it’s still beautiful in my eyes.
Because it’s fluffy, I’m grinding it in a larger hole grinder. I keep two grinders, one with tighter small holes and one with larger holes. Tightly packed buds are best ground in a smaller hole grinder. The result is a uniform fluff covered in crystals, lime green, larger petals, without any of the little orange hairs on MKU for example. It also isn’t particularly stemmy, especially compared to other budget marijuana I’ve tried in the past.
My first use is a very small bowl in the vape to get a sense of the flavor profile. The initial impression is it vaporizes very well. I got a bright chemical pine taste in the front of the mouth with a little bit of a cooling effect on the back. There’s a hint of citrus without the acidity of the Lemon parentage, likely the presence of some citrone terpines. It reminds me very much of the taste of Durban Poison (a very rightfully named strain), and I wonder if that might be involved in the parentage. Certainly it tastes like a Kush hooked up with White Widow at the very least. I also experienced a body tingling effect almost immediately. Pleasantly surprised by its potency.
After having dinner, I went through a few larger vaporizer bowls, and the experience was relaxing and quite pleasant. I was impressed by how its potency held up in a larger session, and the buds are cured just so and hold up to a session rather than immediately drying up. It was satisfying, a balanced high.
I also popped a little bit into the one-hitter pipe. The flavor difference between vaporizing and smoking is remarkable. Smoked, the chemical flavor is masked and it brings a pleasant piny nose instead. It also smokes very smoothly, leaving my mouth filled with a sort of caramel pine. So that sweetness in the scent comes through more in the smoked experience. I don’t choose to smoke very often, and found the lung-feel was not particularly harsh with this strain. The fact that the high is balanced between the body and cerebral. One hit was enough to give me a pleasant mood boost, leaving me feeling bright and happy. The size of one hit in the pipe is about the amount I would use for a small bowl in the vaporizer.
Comparatively, I would say both uses got me similarly high, but the smoked high is slightly more cerebral and the vaporizer high was more of a body high that faded into a more energetic mindspace as time went on. Neither left me feeling the classic indica couch lock, leaving me to suggest this strain as a decent daytime pain/stress relief option. It’s not a “crush everything beneath your energized heels” sativa; it also doesn’t bring anxiety or paranoia either. Though, this review HAS been stretching out pretty long… I was writing this part while I was using. So it definitely fit the creativity quality! I am not at all disappointed I have so much of it because the strain behaves exactly like I hoped!
I tested the strain out later on three buddies, an experienced casual user, a heavy user, and a newbie. The newbie enjoyed food SO MUCH. The other heavy user got high. The casual user enjoyed a few hoots and had a good time. The $99 ounce did not disappoint. However, none of these people got to test my two samples.
In short, I was very pleased with my purchase. It appears the selection is regularly changing. I would feel confident trying any of the strains available and will be buying again. I haven’t written a review before but because this is a pretty new MOM I thought I would detail one up.
