So ever since we have been added to the MOMs list (the google doc), we started getting emails about once a week from someone who can't speak very good english telling me my site is under attack (it never was - our security is great) and that to stop it we must send BTC (first started out as like 0.8 of a bitcoin and the last ones were down to 0.35 BTC after i keep ignoring them) Telling me that if i pay he/she (first emails came from a "queenhckr" and last couple from "kinghckr") will help boost me with seo (tip - dont ever fall or pay for seo optimization, the way algorithms have changed on google, traditional seo is dead) and they will destroy all my competition lolol.
Then the smart person ends by telling me to pay the BTC - but doesnt even leave a BTC addy hahahah (you would think you would leave the addy to actually get paid if someone was dumb enough to fall for these emails)
Just wondering if any other MOMs get these emails or if we are just the selected "chosen one" lol
None of these emails bother or scare me as my background is web work for the last 20 years and some kid with knowledge of how to do a DDoS doesn't phase me lol
Re: Questions for MOMs
2Just ignore them bud. I get them in my spam folder at work all the time. Just spam. Pretty clever though eh? LOL
Re: Questions for MOMs
3Hi there, we've gotten them as well and just ignore them. From what I can tell they don't DDOS, they put a mask on the front of your site that can work to stop traffic going there and make it appear down. When we put Cloudfare in the Under Attack mode setting it blocks it.
Re: Questions for MOMs
4yeah i just ignore it, but just find it funny and amusing they dont include an addy to be paid at, its kinda like trying to rob a bank but forgetting to take the money.
Re: Questions for MOMs
5We have experienced this as well many times. As long as your sites security is up to date it shouldn't be a problem. Just ignore and ban whatever IP they are contacting the site from.
