Storing, bovedas, etc.

Hey all,

So up until now I have been keeping my weed frozen which works ok for several weeks. I had never heard of bovedas until recently. I got a couple of ounces coming in this week across 11 different strains and I'd like to store them properly.

Got me some 500ML Mason jars and ordered a 20 pack of the bigger bovedas.

I'd just like to confirm I'm doing this right, do I just put the weed in there with the pack and I'm fine, or do I need to do any preparation to the weed or packs first?

No preparstion but you should see what works best for you between 58 and 62% and also the size of the pack for the amount it’s going to be used for. I always use them for 3.5g and up. I use the 8g packs at 62% and it’s perfect to roll joints.

You’ll be glad to use them, it’s nice to pick up some buds and they’re always fresh.. it also helps to give some fluff back to some buds.

I went with 62 and actually considered 65%. I like my weed borderline too humid to smoke. Figured I'd play it safe and use 62 to avoid molding.

As for the sizes from what I read there is no such thing as too big, only too small. Read the 4/8g were mostly for shipping and not very good for storage. I'm expecting 11 strains, mix of heights and quarters.

Dude, don't ever freeze your weed, unless you're making bubble hash. Glass jars kept in a cool dark space is what u want. If you want to fuck around with Boveda packs then make sure u check and open "burp" the jars every couple days or the humidity may get too high. Not sure how dry your weed is, but in over 35 yrs of smoking and growing, on the very rare occasion that my herb needed some rehydration, I prefer an old school piece of orange peel over boveda packs any day. Anyways, herb is meant to be consumed not stored so get busy blazin or whatever it is you do with your stash lol

Why would humidity get too high with bovedas? I thought the point of them was to keep humidity constant?

As for freezing I've been doing it for 30 years. Perhaps it's not the best method but weed that'd decent will stay very good for a couple months. It does degrade but it's not a terrible way.

As for consuming it, I don't smoke large quantities and most of my friends quit, so I do what I can. Not gonna order a 3 pack of single grams each week to stay fresh, I like to order an ounce or so (mixed strains) and smoke it over a 2 month period. I won the 100$ draw from planetpot the same day my kootenay order was placed so now I have a little more than usual coming my way, just want to make the best of it.

Hey congrats man...free herb is the best...i wouldn't worry too much about the boveda packs, and yes the point of boveda is to keep constant humidity but unless this MOM sends u some super old product u should be fine with glass jars, but really man freezing your weed is just plain wrong totally unnecessary and u should never do it again lol...i have some 9 month old colas in jars right now that are the bomb, no freezer, no boveda, just a nice cure with good storage, they smell and taste better than ever, but hey, everyone has their preferences, respect, whatever u do i hope it all works out!

9 months? Damn that's quite a stretch. I do have weird preferences when it comes to freshness. Everyone seems to want their weed super ultra dry so they get more of it, but in my experience weed is best when it's still moist to the point where you wonder if you're going to be able to light it. I much prefer the smell and taste and even the texture of the smoke if it makes sense when it's still borderline damp. Most growers will cure it to a level that's dryer than that, add the fact that lots of MOM's seem to have shit methods of storage or very old stuff on their tablets, it results in weed that's IMHO not smokable. I just hate smoking weed that rips the throat and has all it's nose killed by the smoke.

I guess I must be a special snowflake...

Well said,
I personally only keep a 4G Boveda max in a mason jar for any thing with an ounce ( for personal smoke )
The humidity is always consistent and upon opening the jar the smell and damn amazing and just wanting to explode out the jar :P
