Scroll down to my most recent post
So I placed my first order with Kootenay Craft on Monday and just opened up my box of goodies. I’ll probably be doing a review next week after I smoke all 7 strains a few times. But I’ve never seen a nug this size from a MOM. Usually they keep the good ones for themselves.. other MOMs should take notes. I wish all my first orders arrived like this.
Ladies and gents, I present to you.. mystery machine

Thats a nice looking bud!
When i got my white rhino it was the same, one big bud in a jar. Pop that sucker open and check for mold. Every bud piece i broke off the main bud had mold where it touched the stem. Hopefully you had better luck!

"Other moms take note"...Nope, unless you want to be told mold is in fact not mold but terps so they can stiff you out of a replacement. Like the comment above, check your stuff.

Can you guys post pics of what you found? I’ll take a good long look tonight...

This is what the inside of every bud piece i broke off the main bud looked like. They replace my order.
If your just breaking it apart and throwing it in a grinder you might just miss it. Although i had smoked a joint first and it had an odd cheesey/mold taste which is what lead me to look.

Thx for the heads up.. I went over this nug and I honestly can’t tell if there’s a little bit of mold or not.. there’s a section that if you get real close up, it looks like spider webs? I’ll admit I haven’t had much experience with moldy weed.. I purchased from one of the best dispensary’s in the GTA for most of my adult life and never had any mold issues. I took a ton of photos with my loop and iphone.. hopefully one of you guys can help me out.
EDIT: so I sent them an email. In some photos you can clearly see a section where the hairs have a brown/grayish colour to them, where as the hairs right next to them have a healthy orange colour. I’m starting to believe this is infact mold.. however I’m no expert. I’d still love for someone to chime in here.

So KC says they’ve had no mold whatsoever with this strain. They did not provide me with an explanation as to what I’m seeing, instead they basically said they see nothing. They also said if I break apart the bud and don’t see obvious signs of mold then it’s fine. I don’t know what to think.. I don’t see obvious signs of mold but what the fuck is this webbing? I’m posting the pics I emailed to KC.
Note the webbing highlighted by black arrows
More arrows pointing to the webbing
I’ve highlighted the area in question.

If you havnt you need to open this bud up and take a look
I have seen that webbing before near mold and it can be related. I have also seen it on some buds i got from a freind who had been battle spider mites during that grow.

So I just ordered a digital microscope from amazon. I realize if I’m going to feel 100% safe smoking this I need to properly view what’s going on.
Farmingbaked thanks for the input. Spider mites would make sense. I did open it up this morning, didn’t see any bud rot or major signs of infestation. However, I didn’t want to contaminate my prep area, so I put it away quickly and will wait until Tuesday for my scope.
The one time I smoked moldy dope when I was a teen we had to call the ambulance for my cousin. I remember my throat was closing up pretty bad.. I may be overly cautious, but I’m not going to jeopardize my health if I’m not certain. I got the feeling from KC that they thought I was making something outta nothing.

It LOOKS like spider mite webbing, but I don't have enough knowledge to say for sure. Maybe ask on reddit? More users over there.
Here's one example I found with webbing on bud, looks similar:

It is looking as I first suspected and pointed out to you. Spider mites.

So is this shit dangerous to smoke? I already vaped a few times from this batch. No where near the webbing.

Yeah so it’s resolved guys. They refunded me for that strain which is all I wanted. When you purchase platinum top shelf craft weed, you shouldn’t be seeing strange unknown items in a product you are going to inhale. Especially, if it’s insect related.. I broke it open and I don’t see any mold, def no bud rot. I bought a digital microscope and went through it, no insects or anything like that. It honestly just looks like small strains from a spider web. There will be very minor small strains spread out in random spots on this massive nug. I smoked a bit of it and honestly, it was a forgettable high. I struggled to find any flavour while vaping.. pretty short hybrid high.
Mystery machine only cost me $33 after discounts since it was a substitute for white rhino, but I believe its priced just over $70 with a 20% discount.
And let me just say I wish no ill will to the fine folks at KC. I was kinda heated after they brushed me off after my first email. But after I reasoned with them, they saw my point of view and realized it’s $33 lol

I’m gonna smoke the other small nugs that came with the strain... I don’t know if I want to smoke around this crap. It only cost me $33 after discounts..

the fuck?
too long/couldn't read
Had similar issue, opened thread here, some members said to email. Emailed them some lengthy/detailed emails, words and meanings got mixed up (im terribly guilty of taking things the wrong way), offered something extra in my next order even though I stated multiple times I just wanted to give a heads up and am not looking for a hand out, haven't heard back from my last email (doesn't need to be a reply).
I got pretty worked up regarding my issue because I just sent my email as an FYI and got a not necessarily form reply back but hinted at trying to scam (not ME personally but communities like reddit). Words get confusing.

Maybe we need to be asking how many shady folks are out here running mold scams on MOMs, posting blurry unclear photos claiming mold and looking for a replacement? I'm sure that's why you got a cold response, it probably happens to them daily.

Damn same thing happened to me with the log out grrr.....
Anyways I think they just instantly offer a refund or compensation when they have been having problems with a strain. I sent a pic and they were very apologetic offering a replacement no questions asked.

Honestly though, I don’t think KC lived up to all the hype. With my first time customer coupon I got a pretty good deal, but most of my weed is dry and has a faint smell. Minus the grape la which almost smells too strong. The jager is a very nice smoke. Im also enjoying the chocolope as a wake n bake, but again it arrived very dry and would crumble when being handled. An air-tight jar w/ boveda brought some stickiness back to it though.
I’m just going to stick with coastal wildfire and bh.othority from now on. Yeah they’re crazy pricey but I never ever have to worry about getting stuff I’m not going to wanna smoke. And my 7g of GDP from KC is going to sit at the back of my collection for a long, long time because of its lack of potency. Granted it cost me $52/7g and CWF is $70+ shipping.
I’m just pumped for my violator and MK Ultra from CWF to come in. Thank god CP is no longer on strike.

Wrote for not even 5 minutes and then it logged me out. Took a few minutes in between writing on this post to see if it would happen again. It did not.
another little edit
I've been away from the page for over an hour, closed it from my open tabs and I come back and i'm STILL logged in... this is so random. Every other time I need to log in again. Hitting "remember me" doesn't seem to help too much either. This time it kept me logged in though. I'm still miffed at my wall of text being lost :O

Since I was emailing them 3 months later and having consumed about 80% of the product, I just felt I would be pissing up a rope at that point. It wasn't about compensation at all, just information.

I've definitely had it happen to me too, on forums mostly. If I write a long post, I just select and copy the whole thing before hitting submit, that way it's in my clipboard if the site logs me out. I don't know how to fix the problem with the site, but it is a way to ensure your essays aren't lost to the sands of time. Or sometimes I write my posts (reviews especially) in a word processor window so all I'd lose is my formatting if the site glitches like so.
