Hey folks! After searching around for a small rosin press to buy I came across a thread on the ICmag forums that inspired me to Macguyver together my own press.

I disassembled a hair straightener and then melted the plates directly onto the pads of the bar clamp. I also sawed off the part of the casing that housed the motherboard and lcd display and taped it onto the back of the clamp and voila! The pink bubba was pressed for 2 min at 200f, tightening the clamp every 5-7 seconds. I've squished a few other strains and the results are amazing.
The biggest challenge was finding a hair straightener that had low temperature settings for under $50. I lucked out and came across one on clearance at walmart for $45. The bar clamp was around the same price, so total cost was roughly $100.

6I guess I should update that it's broke now. After many, many uses the plates stopped heating. I currently have an unassembled 10 ton hydraulic press in a box and a rosin plate kit parcel on the way. Time to go pro!

8I went with Dabpress 3x5 uncaged plates because they were on sale for $250 USD. Have to admit I'm pretty dang happy with it, especially with being able to lock down the bottom plate.ODoyleRules wrote: Mon Apr 29, 2019 11:39 amVery nice, what plates did you decide to go with?Chopper wrote: Sat Apr 20, 2019 9:15 am I guess I should update that it's broke now. 9Nice, was your decision to go with uncaged cost saving or was there another reason?Chopper wrote: Sun May 05, 2019 6:00 amI went with Dabpress 3x5 uncaged plates because they were on sale for $250 USD.
