There was a thread started on Reddit about this last night, and I didn't want to get into the usual Reddit shitstorm by posting it myself the other day, but I think it's important enough to bring it to everyone's attention. Make sure you're choosing MOMs with very good smell proof packaging moving forward... CP seems to be cracking down on packages that smell with a new policy.

I went to pick up my FlexDelivery package at my small town postal office and she couldn't find my package at first. She then found it and said "oh yeah, this one smelled and we've just been told that after Oct 17 any packages that smell like this won't be delivered and returned. We're waiting on smell-proof bags for this stuff." She said it's not the 17th yet, and she doesn't really care herself, but that's what they've been told this week from CP. I signed for my package, said "not sure what you're talking about" and then walked out. The thread on Reddit seems to confirm that this policy has slowly gone out to CP this week.

Either my postal lady was a police dog in a past life or I just can't smell it anymore, because I held the damn box up to my nose and couldn't smell a thing. It was from Sky High Exotics who have very nice, sealed mylar bags, those where then vac sealed, and the box as taped up pretty well. I suspect she knows after a year of not-very-heavy packages from BC coming in and was maybe just giving me a heads up, because I'm not sure what else Sky High could have done here. Next week could be interesting for MOMs if a lot of people suddenly don't receive packages because their postal workers aren't as lenient as others.

I don't have any more to add to this really, just passing along what my local CP worker said to me. I'll probably go back to home delivery for a while so maybe it's not being scrutinized as much while sitting in the post office.

I bribe my delivery person with a bottle of wine and some beer every now and then to keep his loyalty.Wine makes the smell disappear, and beer makes it go away.In these rural areas we usually just a have a few folks to be concerned about.

The concerning thing here is not the smell, but the fact you state it did not smell. I hope they don't target all packages originating from BC and start building an address list of MOMs to intercept packages before they even get to us. That would really suck.

this would make sense like a filter so they can hold bogus investigations and harvest addresses.. Proceed with caution

Yup, ditto. I didn't smell it in front of her, but once I got in the car I took a sniff and was completely confused. The other thing is that it was my first order from Sky High, so it's not like it was from one of my regulars with an address she's seen a few times. They other question is, how did it make it all the way from BC, Ottawa, and then my little town's post office? If that's the policy then they should catch it at the first stop in BC.... why leave it to the last stop and waste all the resources of getting there to send it right back? There's going to be a lot of finger pointing between MOMs and customers if parcels go missing/rerouting halfway across the country and nobody knows why.

Anyway, we'll have to wait and see what happens I guess. I still placed two more orders after that convo because I want to make sure I have enough for the first month or so of legalization in case stuff like this gets worse. Hopefully those two make it by super-nose postal lady and get delivered Mon/Tue when they arrive... skipped FlexDelivery this time so maybe they just get scanned and sent out for delivery

This is very concerning. The whole legalisation thing seems like a step in the wrong direction. It's bullshit i don't want to pay out the ass in order to enjoy my buzz. If CP does indeed start keeping track of mom's addresses to seize packages, i fear it may very well be the end of mom's. At least for me as i don't feel like spending 100's of dollars to get a package that may never arrive... f*** you greedy ass government.

I think when it goes legal Canada Post can actually admit they are shipping cannabis legally without consequences to them and ship it back to sender. That way they will still get paid for postage and return it to sender. Until all the dispensary stop selling online. I love it the way it is now! The government ruins everything so how can it go well. Everyone should have stocked up!

I think a big part going forward will be more secure shipping. Packaging is great for the most part but you may need to take further steps to ensure discretion. Double if not triple sealing, varying box dimensions, maybe even added weight to help cover tracks; things are definitely going to change. We already see stories of seizures now so I can only imagine the consequences that could possibly be levied against the buyer/seller once legalization is in place.

I hope for the best but I’m trying to be realistic about all of this going forward too. I have a nice stockpile to ride things out for a little while.

My hope is they only grab the ones that smell super strongly. However, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if they started giving extra scrutiny to all small to medium size packages from BC after the 17th. One concern, like OP intimated is that a postal worker with a strong sense of smell could notice trace amounts of flower on the packaging, or even guess at its contents. I wonder if most MoMs wear gloves while packing orders, so as not to get any residue on the outside of packages? Who knows if that would make a difference anyway. I'll say for one thing though, I'll be pissed if I'm forced to order overpriced, mass-produced LP weed. The 17th will for sure be interesting.

Yup! I was just commenting to my buddy last night that I'm more worried about this stuff now that it's about to become legal than ever before. I may have a different tune in a year or two, but in the short term legalization is messing with my shit.

The unfortunate bottom line is legal means a lot more laws, and teams of enforcement agents to make our lives more jittery.This pre legal time was the best for us and our ability to purchase decent products at good prices.Weed will never be truly legal ,but politicians have a great way to twist everything around, and redefine the terminology of our language.Legal to a politician means their corporate friends are getting all the action, and us little guy's get left out and busted.

Something to keep in mind is that when the packages arrive at your local post office they likely have been sitting in the back of a truck possibly in the sun for hours. If anyone has ever lost a bud under your car seat and come back after a few hours, its gonna stink. Similarly i would hypothesize that when they unpack the truck your "stinky" package may smell from sitting in a hot truck, but by they time you pick it up and its cooled off inside the post office the noticeable smell has dissipated.

Just because there is no noticeable smell when you received it, does not necessarily mean it never smelled.
