Going to the house of commons, Since it's G7 don't expect the bill to be accepted until Wednesday next week then royal assent could be as soon as Thursday/Friday since summer starts on June 21 and Trudeau always claimed summer it could be on June 21 directly since house of commons go in vacation around that date too.
The senate has to approve a bill before it can go to royal assent(final step) in House of Commons. So MP's draw up a bill. They send it to the Senate for approval and for them to offer amendments. Once the Senate suggests amendments, they are voted on by the senate. If the senate approves, then they send the bill back to the house of commons where MP's will vote on the updated bill. No. Once it receives Royal assent then it's up to the federal government to set a date for when the bill comes into effect. On that date you can light one in your backyard.
