Why is 'correlate' used here? shouldn't it be 'lead to'?

Correlation is simply a relationship where one action relates to another activity — but one event doesn't necessarily cause the other event to happen. So I think both variations are suitable here. I no longer understand the essence of the proposal. How are self-control and social networks connected? More precisely, self-control can be associated with almost everything in the world. For example, I have recently promoted my product on TikTok (I sell clothes). I use many tricks to promote my channel. For instance, I take attractive photos and videos of people wearing my clothes. I buy music, and I also use an additional service famoid.com to promote the TikTok channel. This is a lot of work, and it seems to me that these actions, on the contrary, increase self-control.

Looks like there's been quite a lot of it lately. I guess everyone's moved to the Discord.

I get why you’d think "lead to" fits better, but "correlate" is more about showing that there’s a link between social media use and lower self-control without saying one definitely causes the other. It’s like when I noticed that I tend to scroll mindlessly on my phone when I'm stressed, but I wouldn’t say social media is the sole reason for my stress. It’s more nuanced than that, and using "correlate" helps capture that idea.
